Needs more bass!
These Yamaha monitors are very clear in the mid - high range but when it comes to bass, well, there isn't any. I found them to be much better than my old KRKs but still had less bass than the 5" monitors of the KRKs. It does have room control switches on the back which allows you a high shelf, cut/boost by +-2db at 2kHz, and a low shelf at 500Hz by -2db or -4db, but I would have hoped that you would be able to boost the low end! The overall sound quality is very nice and, clear, precise and a lot flatter than my old KRKs. I would recommend these speakers if you are in a small room, but if you are in a big room I would get a sub.

Used to love these Speakers but there is a but.
I have never listened to these above conversation level and all was great for about 18 months, then one monitor started with the lowest of rattles in the drive unit. Really disappointed considering the price they were and I'm left with a dilemma of trying to get replacement under warranty or simply to order a new drive unit for about £50. If I use the warranty I have to re-box and take to the post office then wait for an outcome and knowing Yamaha they may simply say I damaged the speaker with extreme volume and then I face a bill to have them mended or face a bill to have them returned !!!!! Clearly the warranty isn't worth trying to use as either way its likely to cost me the same price as replacing the drive unit myself. Time to search google for that new drive unit I think.

Good for the price
Great quality speakers, they do not sound flat though, they are mid range boosted, they seem clearer than others, but it is not flat, it has peak on the highs and mids.

Good monitors
I have read so many reviews about these monitors talking about being the best on their price. To be honest, i am not expert nor i have tried other monitors in order to have a more objective opinion about these BUT overall i can say that i wasn't impressed especially after all this fuss about them. I was expecting to listen things i haven't before but in reality they are pretty similar to my stock mediocre old Aiwa.
Another reason buying them was to start playing plug ins with my guitar than turn on my amp expecting to sound better but again I wasn't impressed.
They are okayish monitors which around 130-140 euros each it would make more sense to me. 400 for a pair its way too much in my opinion.
