Thomann Plek Service Standard NIS

PLEK Standard Service - Fret Dressing for Nickel Silver Frets

Behind the brand name PLEK is a patented procedure that facilitates perfect dressing of the fretboard, fretwork, nut, bridge, as well as an overall improved adjustment of the string action.

In close consultation with you, our team optimises the string action and thus the playability of your instrument. Intonation problems that are the result of a disproportionately high string action are also eliminated.

The PLEK machine sensor technology misses the neck of the instrument and creates a specific profile.

Any unevenness in the fretboard and frets is corrected with a tolerance of 0.01 mm, resulting in no more buzz in the strings and an even die off.

After polishing the frets, individual alignment adjustments of the intonation and string action are then made in accordance with your personal requirements.

High-tech fret job

Markus546, 06.05.2014
As my Lakewood Custom D-32 needed a fret job, I decided to give the new Plek Service a try, and I don't regret it. I checked the details beforehand with the service team and sent them my guitar in a nice big padded parcel. I soon got a notification from Thomann that the instrument had arrived savely, which calmed my nerves quite a bit.

After the fretboard was measured and it was clear that no new frets were needed, the Plek-machine did a wonderful job in levelling the old frets and giving my guitar a wonderful low action and perfect intonation. Playability has also improved compared to the original factory setup. Obviously Thomann have got them a really cool new machine and the people who know how to use it.

Maybe the service is a bit pricey for a new instrument, but if you need a fret job anyway, I would definitely recommend it.

Perfect - in every way!

18.03.2014
Had given me a few weeks ago a super well-preserved GIBSON LP Custom of 1990. The only sad stuff: fairly high and edgy cymbals and a string that is not exactly perfect.
Okay, many like the high circlips because of the supposedly faster playability yes, for me it's just unpleasant. Especially when slipping over several frets.

At first I had - after 3 weeks of waiting - a local, highly praised guitar doctor, whose work unfortunately brought only marginal improvements, but me including string change 105.00? Cost Oh, and I still got his expert advice to sell the guitar again, if I could not get used to this type of bundle. However, I would also like to order more, more extensive works from him on my guitar, whose financial remuneration however would have reached the cost of a 3 week Mediterranean holiday off season.

Well, and then I discovered on the Thomann side the new Plek service!
Since I wanted to send my "good piece" not anonymously to Bavaria, I first received by mail some basic information (very fast, very friendly, very competent) and then by telephone a very timely, personal appointment to the Plekken.

After just under 5 hours start-up time then finally arrival in the service center at Thomann. So, and all that came then just deserved the note "100% perfect"! Very nice, friendly-binding reception with coffee offer, a detailed discussion about my problems and ideas regarding the playability of my guitar, as well as a brief analysis of my playing technique. My cautious inquiry as to whether I was allowed to remain during the entire procedure was, by the way, self-evidently affirmed.
The first thing to measure the guitar in the Plek-Showcase was to analyze the computer graphics and discuss them, and finally, the machine was given the order with the appropriate values ??in work. My decision was to leave enough material on the chopsticks to be able to have the option at some time, at least once again, on the fret Without the need for a new rounding.
During the grinding work, everything was explained and explained at the most, and there was also a little talk about the time. Honestly? I like this! This also belongs to the overall package of a service.
After the machine had rubbed a good half an hour on my guitar, it was then the manual filing of the ridges and the final polishing of the fretbands. The action lasted about an hour and a half more and was done very carefully, almost lovingly. And then I'm the first time with my fingers over the "new", flat, wonderfully rounded cudgels driven ..... class !!!
The most exciting moment, of course, was when the strings were re-wounded and I felt the result of the whole procedure for the first time with my fingers. I can only say: GEIL - GEIL - GEIL! ! ! I have not done the first pentatonic in A without problems .... :-))))) We then made two or three corrections to the bridge setting, and then everything was perfect !

CONCLUSION
I have for 198.00? A guitar for my playing technique and needs 100% ig perfectly prepared. Of course, the strings could have been reduced by half a millimeter. But this would have had different consequences. As it is, it is the perfect solution: flat, round cinches with enough "flesh" for a later re-grinding of indentations and grooves, and a "reasonable", flat string position, where you are sometimes even more powerful in the strings Can without it rattling or snarling.
As the Plek machine does only half of the work, here finally also a very big praise for advice, customer support and manual postprocessing! And now I call it a name: it was the Rudi Ens from the Dept. Service / guitars who did the whole procedure with me and my guitar. People, if you consider the plekken of your guitar, turn to the Rudi Ens! There you are in the very best hands !!
