CC 100 on a Double Bass
The CC100 was attempted on several double basses, mainly using the dedicated double bass clip. Several trials were performed, trying to establish the optimal distance & location of the microphone.
The quality of sound is fair, but not quite at the level of an LDC mic. The main problem is the relatively low sensitivity & output level, resulting in relatively poor S/N. This is because the double bass is a relatively quiet instrument (compared to, for instance a trumpet or a snare drum).
Qualitatively the best results are obtained with the microphone placed close to the top, with the goose neck sticking through the bridge feet. However, in this close position it is quite a focussed point-measurement (though not as focussed as common DB PU's, as the Realist or contact mic's). Moving it farther out results in a more global perception of the instrument, yet at the cost of poorer S/N.
f-Holes need to be avoided: the sound will be strongly tainted by the Helmholtz blow resonance resulting in a dark grotty wash.
Sound quality can be further improved by setting judicious (sharp) notches on your pre-amp, after spectral analysis of the raw data.

Sounds good, but flimsy build
These are great mics for the price that they are, but if they are getting anything above gentle and infrequent use, be prepared for the cable to break. That being said, I've gone through a few of these as the price is so low that it's still worthwhile! The sound is good, not DPA quality but very good for what it is.

decent value but some issues
I'm pretty comfortable with budget gear but this system has a few niggles.
1) the mic holders fall off often
2) bizarre product differences leaving me with what I thought was an identical device but is incompatible
3) some other design issues with the clips

t.bone Ovid System CC 100
Bought this to amplify a nylon string guitar on stage. It works to a degree, you need phantom power for a PA and you pick up a lot of ambient noise. So for this purpose it is just about OK - however it is superb for recording.

Gets the job done, but nothing special
The clamp that comes with this microphone is really slippery, I feel like it can fall off from the instrument at any moment.
Soundwise the microhpone is only okay, nothing really outstanding.
I tried it with violin, acoustic guitar, in both cases a bit harsh sounding.

Not bad!
This mic will still need some extra EQ and possibly compression of some sort + reverb etc. of course to unleash its sound, but it's not bad and not expensive for what it does. Don't forget this needs phantom power, so a more or less serious mixer has to be used or a pedal that supplies phantom power. Its accessories are also interesting.

It is important that descriptions of this product reveal what system is needed, what equipment must be linked for use. This one needs an expensive connection.

A good basic mic if treated carefully
I purchased one of these Ovid mics to try out on guitar and violin. It is very similar to the DPA range in appearance, but obviously the price point is considerably lower.
The cable is very thin and I would expect that this will be the first point of failure if the mic is not handled very carefully. It's also fairly noisy - if you handle the cable with the mic up you can hear handling noise.
It's a budget priced mic, and will be useful for close mixing, perhaps if there is no one on hand to position a mic near a performer/instrument on stage, but it's not pro-level in terms of build quality or sound. For serious sound reproduction I would recommend looking at alternatives from other manufacturers.

For sax: nice sound for the price, but a lot of key noise
Hi, I've just bought the CC100 with the sax clip. I have compared it with a friend's AKG C519. The Tbone has a nice sound, but there is a lot of key noise. I personally regret buying the Tbone, and I am thinking of returning it and buying the AKG instead.

Good value and works with AKG
Bought this to amplify sax and flute live.
