For this price, no question
Sævar 16.12.2022
The MP5 are robust and do not need to be treated with kid gloves.
I have used these a lot for various applications. For speech, stringed instruments, as overhead mics and more.
They have rather good side rejection for mics of this size.
The only con I can think of is that they are kind of mid rangy (if that is a word), lack the sparkle that a small diaphragm Neumann (or similar) of this type has.

But the bottomline is that if you are on a budget or need mics for situations where stuff happens and you do not want to risk you fancy crazy expensive mics, this is a solid offering.

g
good stereo pair could use a pad and a low-cut
guyrab 29.08.2017
very sturdy build quality with 10 year guarantee. I do like the sound it's almost perfect. it would have been perfect had it had a pad option (because you really need it sometimes i.e. piano recording I need to record from quite close to the hammers and then the volume is overwhelming), and also a low-cut - as these pics do a nice jobs with lower frequency but actually it's better to leave the lower frequency to large dia. micrpophones and to let it roll off

LD
Great for overheads/underheads
Lior Delman 01.03.2023
I bought the matched pair last November to capture underheads such as hihats and ride cymbal and it's been with me since. It sounds good for it's price and apparently very sturdy for such a delicate microphone.
I do have a matched pair of NT5's to use with it and capture other cymbals and together it sounds great and nothing gets phased.
We'll see if it stands the test of time.

really good, but there's better
Zambo 22.01.2019
if you really need a matched pair of mics and you register music at an amateur level, that's just the right choice. If you're a professionist, my advice are the nt5.
BUT, if you don't necessarly need a match pair, GO FOR THE RODE NT1-A. That's the best in this price range.

S
Excellent product, great VFM
Steve9124 18.10.2017
Bought these to record acoustic guitars with. Fabulous value for money and excellent clear recordings. The only thing I've knocked a point off for is that one of the end caps on one of the mic's has fallen off. Apart from that, to be able to get a matched pair at this price point to get the quality of recording that you do - its a steal.

N
Nice microphones for the price.
NilsRP 15.01.2021
These microphones are useful for any budget studio and for professional use alike. I have used them on live sound jobs and I like them. They do their job, they are inexpensive and sound nice. They are not the best mics I have but they do the job I need them for. Either overheads or supplement mics for percussion and such. I will recomend them for anyone with a tight budget in need of a decent pair of condenser mics. Good purchase for me anyway. I like them and I use them.

When used with a good Pre Amp they are very good (live),for studio the Rode NT5 is a warmer sounding mic but a little more expensive,so the Rode M5 is a great mic for it price.

S
Good small pencil mic
Stimpson 29.03.2018
Rode house is sound has been a bit too bright /harsh to my ears, but not with the M5. Quite smooth and versatile small diaphragm mic. Not the best performer in the resolution but at this price smokes many more expensive mics.

Works well as OH and acoustic guitar mic and I have been using one in parallel with more conventional SM57 and e609 in front of a guitar cab. Have recorded even one vocal track with M5.

Really nice allrounder for the price, and good overall quality mic when paired with decent pre.
