Great, clever & solid

It was a simple ingenious idea to harden the core of hickory with fire. I saw some dopes on youtube trying to burn their drum sticks because they couldn't see what the big deal is with the firegrain..it's not hard to burn sticks right ?...well the big deal is they are so resistant. Smooth and light like hickory but hard and sonically strong like oak. I used to love oak but I started to find oak heavy and to hard on my wrists. I was so pleasantly surprised with the friegrains... They are a pure, genius piece of equipment that is so well thought and so precisely made, I can't live without them. Go for it, it's not just a gimmick. They last longer and they sound great. Go for it thumbs up pro-mark (again !)

They really match my style although I would love them a bit longer. Look and feel quite solid, they woke up my cymbals (especially the bell on the ride). Good rebound and balance.

Neue Optik oder/und neuer Sound?

Der erste Gedanke: nette Spielerei mit der Optik. Alle drei Ausgaben des 5A mit gleichen Maßen, Stärken und Gewicht aber unterschiedlichem Reboundverhalten? Ich hatte dennoch die "Rebound" und die "Classic" Version bestellt und siehe da: Erhebliche Unterschiede schon direkt nach dem Auspacken auf dem Pad festgestellt. Während der Rebound seinem Namen alle Ehre macht und sehr direkt nach oben weg will ist der Classic, bedingt durch die andere Gestaltung der Schulter und dem größeren Kopf etas mehr ausbalanciert. Er "dreht" gefühlt etwas träger.
Was wirklich erstaunlich ist: durch die Temperaturbehandlung und die dadurch offensichtlich erreichte Härtung des Holzes, ist der Beckensound (Ride) hörbar heller und presenter als bei einem herkömmlichen Hickory Stick. Ich spiele in einer Big Band und gleich bei der ersten Probe kam die Frage ob ich ein neues Ride hätte. Auch die Rimclicks sind um einiges "heller" im Sound als beim unbehandelten Stick. Die versprochene längere Haltbarkeit ist relativ: die Stockschulter leidet beim HiHat-Spiel etwas weniger, ein Kopf des "Rebound" ist bei der Beckenarbeit aber auch schon abgeplatzt. Ist halt Holz und nicht immer auszuschließen.
Fazit: Sehr schöne Optik und angenehme Haptik. Das "Flambieren" ist hörbar viel mehr als nur eine optische Spielerei des Herstellers. Für meinen Geschmack absolut empfehlenswert.
