6. Cajón Accessories

Besides the enormous choice of cajóns themselves, a large variety of add-ons and equipment are also available, which help to extend the range of the cajón's sound and groove.

Some manufacturers offer small modules with one or more bell, shaker, or castanet effects, which can be attached to the side of the cajón quickly with a velcro strap - which means they can be removed just as fast. These modules are usually played by hand, but sometimes also by foot.

A further accessory option are bells and shakers attached to the player's fingers, wrists, or ankles.

So-called cajón pedals turn the cajón into a small bass drum producing a slightly exotic sound in just a very few steps. Drummers in particular appreciate this option since it allows the cajón to be the centrepiece (and stool at the same time) of a minimalist setup for acoustic band projects or unplugged gigs. Other peripherals more commonly seen in a drum set, such as hi-hats and cymbals, are often arrayed around the cajón in such setups.
