Perfectly coordinated

The Native Instruments Komplete Kontrol S49 MkII is the ultimate control centre for any DAW-based studio. It takes working in a software-supported studio to an unprecedented level thanks to several features: The seamless integration of software instruments and effects, as well as extensive visual feedback using two colour displays and the keyboard's innovative Light Guide. This is complemented by the high-quality, semi-weighted keyboard with 49 keys - a true pleasure for recording tracks. Working with software instruments has never been more comfortable and intuitive.

Every detail in view

The Komplete Kontrol S49 MkII is perfectly tailored to the instruments and effects of the Native Instruments Komplete Suite. Software instruments can be easily controlled using the keyboard's controls, and tedious parameter assignments are a thing of the past. Presets from Komplete and NKS plug-ins can be browsed and previewed directly on the Komplete Kontrol S49 MkII. It's not just the two high-resolution displays that provide a great overview: The buttons are illuminated in different colours, and the Light Guide above the keyboard shows the positions of sounds, keyboard zones, etc., so you always have everything in view.

Seamless integration

The Komplete Kontrol S49 MkII is not only an intuitive control centre for the instruments and effects of the Komplete package as well as NKS-compatible plug-ins from other manufacturers. It also offers deep, seamless integration with the following DAWs: Apple Logic Pro X, Garageband, Ableton Live, PreSonus Studio One, and Steinberg Cubase and Nuendo. Transport, mixing, and editing functions of the recording software can be operated comfortably by keyboard, so that reaching for the mouse and looking at the computer screen can be frequently avoided. The Komplete Kontrol S49 MkII also works perfectly with the Native Instruments MASCHINE software. No matter which DAW or working method you prefer, with this keyboard you have everything perfectly under control.

About Native Instruments

Native Instruments is a Berlin-based company, founded in 1996, which specialises in products for computer-assisted music production. The company develops a wide variety of products: Software solutions such as Komplete, which hosts a huge range of virtual instruments that emulate both acoustic and electronic instruments in hi-fi quality, and Reaktor, which lets you create your own virtual instruments - through to hardware products such as beat-making and DJ controllers. Native Instruments' goal is to inspire and encourage musicians with its innovative products. To this end, more than 500 people are employed at the company's headquarters in Berlin and at other locations including Los Angeles, Toronto, Tokyo, London, Paris, and Shenzhen.

Infinite configuration options

When used in conjunction with Native Instruments Komplete or Maschine as well as the Logic Pro, Garageband, Studio One, Cubase and Nuendo DAWs, the Komplete Kontrol S49 MkII can fully exploit the potential of the deep integration between software and hardware. Of course, it can also be used to operate other software instruments and MIDI devices. Each control can be individually assigned and named, making it easy to create presets for different instruments. With two pedal inputs, pitch and modulation wheel, touch strip, and eight assignable buttons and knobs each, it offers plenty of controllers for extensive control tasks.

In the spotlight: Light Guide

The Native Instruments Komplete Kontrol S49 MkII is equipped with an innovative Light Guide. This consists of a chain of multicoloured LEDs located above each key on the keyboard, which display a variety of information depending on the status of the keyboard, thus improving overall clarity. As an example, the Light Guide shows where key switches and key ranges are located in the selected preset. In conjunction with the Smart Play functions, it can also display useful tips and tricks such as chords and notes that match the key.

Can't find a fault.

This controller was exactly what I thought it would be, AMAZING! Very simple plug and play not messing around controller by Native Instruments they really nailed it with this it comes with Komplete 10 which is more than enough to start making some noises. It works well with Logic, Ableton, and Pro Tools. Its durable which I love (It doesn't feel cheap), the keys are responsive and are sensitive so can give you different velocities on notes. The screens are a huge help and give a nice feeling as you don't have to look to your DAW for certain editing and using the mixer cause you can edit via the knobs. Transport buttons beautiful and satisfying to press. I am still getting the hang of it and will have to revise my review in a year or two when I will have taken the most juice out of it ;) Great purchase I'm really happy with it.

T
Great for studio, less for live, make sure it works with your DAW
TheDC 04.08.2021
Native Instruments is known for making some of the best sample packs on the market, the Komplete Kontrol is no different, giving you access to many amazing and pre-built features that can really take your sound to the next level.

As such, it is an amazing studio tool. The displays are useful and vibrant, the quality is solid and the sounds are top notch.

Overall I'd say the keys feel good to use as well, making the whole playing experience quite nice.

2 key points you should consider before buying this:

1. It only works connected to a computer. It is NOT a standalone unit. If you are looking for something that carries its sounds with it, look into the Yamaha MX49 and related products.

2. Check if it integrates with your DAW of choice. I use REAPER for my production, and Native has no first party integration with this. Which means no support out of the box, Fortunately, a community user made a plugin that allows the keyboard to talk to your DAW properly. However, make sure this exists for your DAW of choice if it is unsupported.

D
Ultimate Midi Keyboard
Daveit 03.12.2020
The ultimate keyboard for DAW integration, packed full of features to improve production. Workflow is much quicker having the screens on the keyboard, means less time going back and forward between computer and keyboard. The Native Instruments software included is brilliant and loads of sounds to keep you occupied for hours, with the option to upgrade to Komplete 13 for a low enough price.

Fatar keybed is a great middle ground for those who play piano and those who don't. Feels great to my hands.

Over-all, a really well contructed and premium feeling keyboard packed with features and sounds. Highly recommended!

PK
good value for the money
Piotr Krupa 18.01.2024
I intended to buy possibly cheapest desktop keyboard. I own one rather big with hammer action keys. Then I started eliminating those with nonsense non-motorised faders, and rotary controllers that are not endless -- dust gatherers completely useless in music production. And I ended up with this one. The whole thing is of good quality and really well designed. Plus you get a useful set of sounds. The integration with Logic and Studio One is flawless (!) , I didn't really think it would be. In Studio One it's maybe a bit difficult to start it, but once started it works alright. Yes, I believe it's money well spent :)
