Great mixer for a small home studio
Martin6550 24.11.2021
I wanted a small mixer to replace my noisy 30 year old mixer in my small home studio. I had a few options in mind for my budget and after quite a lot of research I opted for the Mackie 1402 VLZ4 which I hoped would fit my requirements completely. I had used a Mackie before, in a live situation, and hoped that this good experience would be repeated.

I needed enough inputs and outputs and a smaller footprint, with a better range of options than before, whilst having a good clean signal into my outboard, interface and monitors.

I'm probably never going to record live drums at home or record more than 6 channels at a time and the Mackie's inputs provide for that, and the ability to leave a few more items of gear permanently plugged in without having a patchbay. The 6 channels with onyx preamps are really nice and in my opinion sound really full and warm.

The sound quality is fantastic, the Eq is excellent and the versatility of this small and rackmountable mixer is exceptional. The build quality is also very good. I had hoped that this little mixer would be good and I haven't been disappointed at all.

If this mixer fits your requirements and your budget then your search is probably over.

Solid and Reliable
Dave J 26.04.2020
The ideal mixer for Keyboard players and Hardware users, because of having four stereo inputs as well as six mono.
So many mixers on the market in this price range and above, don't give you four stereo inputs.
Uncomplicated and straightforward outboard effects routings are possible with this mixer and the option to return in stereo or mono, which I personally like about these Mackie mixers.
Solid build and they do last a long time!

MK
Great for our band practice room
Manolis K. 16.09.2016
And not only, I guess! We use it with a Behringer A500 power amplifier and older passive Peavy 15" monitors (2x) in a 20-22m2 practice room. Microphone input seems great, bass guitar direct seems great, electro-acoustic guitar great with some feedback issues, solved with a DI box I am told. Connected iPad mini- great. The low/mid/high controls work very well, boosting/cutting nicely. Seems sturdily built.
An included dust cover would have been nice. As would a dedicated mp3 or usb/ipad input. The solo feature allows to monitor clipping on each channel- great. Very pleased!

Expensive build quality at a great price
Wulfhammer 15.09.2020
For the price I paid £249, this is amazing value. The build quality is second to none, no big chunks of plastic making it look cheap.

This is a standard mixer with very little in the way of bells or whistles, but rather concentrates on sound quality and useability over cheap sounding FX or low res interface capabilities.

Great service from Thomann as ever.
