Just mod it if you can't stand its resonance frequency.

Mummufucca, 25.06.2018
Premise: if you're looking for the best monitors or whatever, just don't read this review.

Listening to music or working in a studio with mixes and all that stuff is a matter of EAR, not just "experience". No money will save you from doing this work. You will always need to accomodate your listening to products and environments uniquenesses when you are enjoying an electroacoustic situation. To me, it's better to train you in real listening situations than trying to reproduce an "ideal" environment buying "hi-fi" stuff and spending all your money to cancel reverberation which is not a so bad thing, you know... It's just the way it is and nothing cannot prevent it from happening at all.
Now, I found a good review/guide with pics somewhere on the net where a guy opened these monitors and/or 308 series, can't remember right now. He noticed that only the cabinet materials were "poor", cheap. Back panel is slight and "flexible", woofer's "bell" empty inside so it resonates around a low B flat on a five string bass, say. But this happens if you raise volume, so it's NORMAL that the object and its material components resonate according to empirical factors and the amount of air moving around.
It resembles to a "distortion" but would not be correct to name it this way. If you gently push this plastic ring at woofer's outer surface while you hear this phenomenon, you can verify it's a matter of anatomical structure. So, like the guy mentioned above, you can open it and fill all this empty space in the cabinet and this cheap piece of plastic which holds the woofer with polyurethane foam or whatever solution you may think of, turning this product to its x10 value equivalent series.
So basically manufacturers saved money on cabinet construction leaving excellent speakers and electronics.
I can get very nice clear and deep bass with these 5 inches monitor when placed at the distance I feel good from the wall. Can I work in the sub band with these toys? Maybe. Does getting the best subwoofer in the world (given that I'm able to correctly regulate it in the context, especially the room resonating) mean that I can work decently in the same sub band? Maybe. Again, it's a matter of EAR. Sure spectral analyses and FFT applications can "help" you achieving informations. Just don't step on it forever.
Stereo image is just wonderful, so detailed and "wide" that you can move around the room with almost no "phase interference" cancelling effect. This feature somehow joins two opposite aspects when producing: you can analyze and practice your "technical" hearing and in the same time enjoy the overall musical experience of listening, which is the "final result" that normal people want to have. Sure you can still use your favorite headphones to penetrate even more in the mix, but always remember to be in this place which we call earth and is made of reflections which will always be more accurate than your hi-fi shit.
In the end, I softened that resonance of the plastic ring to the point it does not concern me anymore and I'm happy to listen to acousmatic pieces in my asymmetrical "studio". When I verify acousmatic compositions in the acousmonium, spatializations is just more rendered, not significantly different from the perception I had at home. This means that these monitors are as "objective" as all the others.
People, don't stop making music and start USING the technology you have in the present day.

Disclaimer: I'm no engineer, no audiophile, I like weird crunch noises so I might be wrong.

At this price point: Excellent!!!

TrEr, 08.02.2018
Short version:

Excellent if you are looking for super cheap active monitors for a home setup and don't need a lot of low frequency extension.

Long version:

I got these for a home recording setup where I mainly edit projects that I bring home from my studio and sometimes do simple overdubs. For this purpose they are excellent.

I do most of my mixing in my studio so I did not get these monitors for critical listening. I would probably have gotten better (and far more expensive) monitors if I expected to do a lot of mixing on them. They are a bit lacking in the lows compared to larger, more expensive models so balancing the lows would involve a bit of guesswork. If I was forced to mix on them I would at least make sure to have a pair of high end headphones available to check the mix.

Having said that, they are quite impressive for the size/price and seem to work very well in my home environment (rather than in an acoustically treated studio environment). They have excellent clarity and apart from the slightly lacking lows (which are expected at this price/size) I actually think they sound great!

Build quality is as expected at this price point. A bit plasticky and cheap. On one of mine the front panel doesn't line up perfectly with the main cabinet so it looks a bit rough. It works fine though.

The back panel has both XLR and TRS inputs, a +4dbu/-10dbV switch and some basic HF/LF adjustments. Very sufficient for most home setups. In some situations it would probably have been more conveient to have the volume knobs on the front but I don't really mess around with them too much so for me it's fine.

It could be worth mentioning that both of mine came with some small white spots on the speaker elements and dust cap. It looks like tiny styrofoam particles (or possible paint spray) that had sticked to the surface. Most of them could be brushed off but some of them are sticking so tighly that I would probably damage the elements before I got them off. Both monitors were sealed in plastic bags so it can't be from the packing materials. It must have happened at the factory. Probably not the best quality control and a bit disappointing. It does not seem to affect the sound though and Thomann gave me a small discount for this. Not a big deal to me but they look a bit messy up close.

Conclusion:

These monitors compare very favourably to others I've tried in this price range. For my specific needs I'm very happy with them but if you want excellent low frequency extension or classy looks you should probably save up for something better.
