A classical guitar for players taking their first steps

Possibly the most important thing for young players who are new to the world of the guitar is to start out with a quality instrument that offers optimum playability - only then can they quickly discover the fun of making music and develop the motivation to continue with the guitar in the long term. Long-established manufacturer Fender is very familiar with what novice players want and need, and accordingly offers a wide selection of guitars that offer an excellent price-performance ratio, including the ESC80 Educational 3/4 classical guitar. This three-quarter-sized instrument is built from solid woods and features a slim neck profile to allow notes and chords to be played more easily, robust machine heads, and a satin finish to prevent the player's right arm from slipping.

Solid tone woods for a great sound

When it comes to acoustic guitars, solid woods are essential for achieving a warm, percussive sound with good note separation, which is why Fender has chosen solid okoume for the back and sides of the ESC80 Educational 3/4 and spruce - a classic tone wood - for its top. Its set nato neck in turn features a walnut fingerboard and an extra-narrow neck heel to facilitate access to the upper registers. Pressing and holding down the strings is made easier by the comfortably low string action, a feature particularly beneficial to children. After all, starting out is always difficult, so even a little bit of help goes a long way.

Big sounds for small hands

The affordably-priced Fender ESC80 Educational 3/4 is primarily aimed at children and younger players, and the guitar combines a smaller body size with a 590mm (23.2") scale length and 44.5mm (1.75") nut width in order to provide a much easier starting point for these budding musicians, who might initially feel somewhat out of their depth on a "full-sized" classical guitar. At the same time, the combination of solid woods mentioned above means that players do not have to sacrifice a warm and powerful sound for the sake of comfort. What is more, the scope of delivery also includes a robust gig bag that will keep the instrument safe during storage and transport and features an accessory pocket on the front to provide space for sheet music, a collapsible footrest, or other useful items.

About Fender

Fender is without doubt one of the most legendary guitar and amplifier manufacturers of all time. The company was founded in 1946 by its namesake Leo Fender († 1991), whose innovative ideas brought a breath of fresh air into the musical world. His Telecaster, Stratocaster, Precision Bass, and Jazz Bass are not only classics – they also continue to shape the styles of musicians in countless genres to this day. Timeless Fender amplifier models such as the Bassman, Twin, Deluxe, and Princeton also enjoy a stellar reputation. Besides maintaining its classic product portfolio, however, the company is also constantly developing new products that make Fender a driving force in today’s music industry.

All of the fun, none of the fuss

Getting started on the guitar does not have to be difficult - or expensive, for that matter. The Fender ESC80 Educational 3/4 gives young beginners a solid instrument that makes those first notes as effortless as possible. The tonewoods used in its construction provide a surprisingly powerful sound, and the spruce top gives the guitar a very direct response. Particular attention has been paid to making this instrument easy to play, which is clearly visible in features such as the slim neck profile and low string action. All in all, the Fender ESC80 Educational 3/4 will prove to be an ideal partner for practising at home, for guitar lessons, and for jamming with friends or in a group.

Excellent for children.

Bought this for my eight-year-old son...so that I can reclaim my own guitar back! As expected, the quality is excellent given the price. The price is just above the price of a toy guitar but what you get is an excellent instrument for children to learn. The satin finish is beautiful, the sound is very good but I think some different strings might be in order. All said and done, my son (and I) love it. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a 3/4 size classical guitar. At this price, I doubt if you could do any better, it's what you would expect from Fender. So glad we chose this...oh, and it comes with a free gig bag too. Extraordinarily well packaged and arrived very quickly. First time to use Thomann and will always use them in the future...they are superb, thank you.

A
Good Value Guitar
Anonymous 09.10.2015
I have bought this guitar for one of my students, no experience with this guitar before, just bought it after some reviews i have seen in the web and with some musician friends.

Construction:
At this price point i think the finishing and woods in this guitar is very good. No problems ( fret buzzing, dents, intonation, ...) at the arrival. Even now with about a year later the guitar is still in great shape, no problems in stay in tune during lessons.

Sound:
Again, very good sound at this price point, nice warm tone, i do recommend to put some decent nice strings in it, it will improve the overall sound quality. Have done some small presentations with a mic in it and the sound i managed to get from it is pretty good. No complains at all. This is a very good beginner guitar.

Overall Impressions:
My student is happy with the instrument, if stolen he would definitely buy it again.

A very well made instrument with well rounded sound, good intonation and set up. Although intended for the younger player this style of guitar is ideal for adults who are used to steel string acoustics and electric guitars as the nut with of 44mm is the same as many of these full size instruments. Once hooked by this charming little instrument they may well progress to a fully fledged crossover guitar. As supplied the machine heads are firm and stable while the nut is unusually well adjusted offering a very comfotable feel. The only gripe was that it was advertised as having a satin finish but it is in fact high gloss. My full review is on You tube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QGlVFujhYAw

EH
Good for beginners for the money...
E H. 18.09.2014
I play guitar professionally & bought this for a 10yr old to learn guitar.
Pros: stable neck, plays great, narrow-ish neck, holds tune, even has truss rod (!) for maintenance, looks nice, Low-cost & great value for money...
Cons: sound is just ok overall though i believe a change of strings will help with this...
This guitar gets all of the important things right, which is especially important for a learner... In fact it's a bit addictive - my daughter has to remind me to hand it back now and again :) I totally recommend this guitar, it comes with a gig bag, has nylon strings that won't put younger kids off playing - what's not to love?!!
