Bright as the sun, built like a tank
Seshet the Mad 04.07.2019
-Built like a tank, seriously.
-high sensitivity.
-versatile.
-Great for grunts and deep voices.
-Not recommended on natural airy voices.

This mic has swiftly become my goto workhorse and I absolutely love it! I use it mainly on vocalists, overheads and acoustic instruments, but you could use it on almost anything.

This mic is very sensitive so you'll find yourself using the -20 dB pad a lot. Proper mic placement and room treatment are important.

The figure 8 pattern as well as the omni-directional are excellent and very useful for duets and choirs. The frequency response when switched to cardioid changes just a tiny bit and opens up an airy brightness which is great or bad for vocals, depending on the source.
In my experience, AT2050 shines on deeper vocal styles, metal grunts and rap voices. When proper mic distance is observed by the vocalist, death metal growls will sound bright and not at all muddy. The downside is that harsh high screams have their harshness amplified unless the vocalist repositions. Also 'breathy, angelic' style female vocals can sound harsh, albeit full.

Observe correct mic positioning. Observe adequate room acoustics. Discard muddy SM7b. Enjoy bright AT2050!

Excellent all purpose microphone
Callum T. 31.10.2015
A potential rival for the popular Rode NT1A, the AT2050 is a sturdy and compact large diaphragm condenser with some extra features.

The microphone itself comes with a secure cage to hold it and clip to a stand, and fits in quite snugly. You also have the option for a filter switch and db cut on the microphone, as well as switchable polar patterns.

In use, it delivers a smooth and clean sound, especially on vocals, where it really shines. There is some slight boost in the higher frequency range, making it ideal for vocals to really shine through in a mix.

It is also incredibly sturdy, and mine survived a waist height drop with no visible damage whatsoever!

A must-have microphone for the 'bedroom producer' or small studio owner

A
Useful & competent mic.
Anonymous 21.12.2016
This is a very versatile large diaphragm condenser mic, with figure of 8, cardiod, & hypercardiod settings. Solid & robust construction. I've mainly used it in fig. of 8 with another mic using the 'mid-side' technique. It gives a very neutral, well balanced sound, and is not one of those mics that seem to add their own colour or tone to recordings.

Home studio - First Mic!
Micha6814 06.05.2014
This is my first microphone and I bought it to get some recordings with guitar/vocals and some little drums or a glockenspiel.
I'm more an recording-amateur, but as far as I can evaluate this microphone does a pretty good job.
I bought it in a bundle, so it came with a popkiller, a stand and a microphone suspension, which is essential.

I don't got problems with the sound of any voices or common instruments.
What I like are those multiple patterns, which allows you to cover different sounds/people around the mic.
Great Microphone for beginners like me with a limited budget.
